About the Authors

Mark J. Tager, MD & Robert John Hughes

Dr Mark Tager and Robert John Hughes have been friends for a couple of decades. The two men came together to create ChangeWell Training Academy after distinguished careers in very different fields.  Mark’s career as a doctor led to business opportunities leading and developing healthcare related businesses and products.  Robert’s career was in broadcasting, mass media, and advertising.  Each man achieved renown in their fields for their abilities to develop high performing individuals and teams. The idea of sharing their experience in a way that could help people move forward led directly to Enhance Your Presence.

Common Questions

Q: One of the authors is a doctor. Is this book for the medical profession?

ROBERT: No. When Mark and I started working together, most of his contacts and influence revolved around the healthcare and aesthetic products industries. Because of Mark’s reputation, people from those fields came to our workshops.  They were the ones who told us that “anyone who deals with people” could use these ideas.

MARK: We certainly do use examples and stories from healthcare. But we think they make a point that will resonate with anyone who serves people at a high level . As a physician, I know there is a very high standard of ethics in the profession and a real purity in the relationship between healthcare practitioners and patients. We think the world would be better if all businesses treated their customers like the best doctors treat their patients.

Q: Ultimately, who is this book for?

MARK: We wrote this for anyone who has a LinkedIn profile. There’s only one reason to be on LinkedIn.  You feel you have something to offer that would serve people and you seek to expand your connections so you can make your contribution.  So if you are on LinkedIn, we know you are interested in having a bigger presence.

ROBERT: When people start a new venture or project, they are usually inspired by their vision of what’s possible.  But pretty quickly, they can become overwhelmed and may even feel “I’m not big enough to do this.” We think this is because they missed an essential step. In order to grow your business, you must first enhance your presence. This book is designed to support those people as they reconstitute themselves for the future.

Q: Is this about tips and techniques for public speaking?

MARK: The book is about communicating one-to-one, to small groups, and to the largest audiences imaginable.  We talk about how to be great in-person, on camera, and on line.  But ultimately, our book is not just about being a better speaker. We have countless examples from our students where engaging with these techniques does indeed make them a better speaker – but it also changes their lives

ROBERT: That’s because the way we present these ideas is designed to make them easy to consume and apply.  Most people haven’t had a lot of training in speaking confidently and authentically, revealing what’s in their heads and hearts. When we give them proven techniques, two things happens even to the most reticent speaker. They get better almost immediately and that experience opens new possibilities. We actually witness leaders emerging in the course of engaging with the ideas in this book.
